The shelves upstairs are back up and staff have been hard at work getting them filled with our collection again! Next up will be getting items back from our offsite storage location, which includes our children’s book and DVD collection. Stay tuned for a floor map of our newly designated spaces!
We’re so close to the end of the remodel we can barely stand it! All of the major work is complete and it’s so nice to see the updated spaces with fresh paint and carpet. We are working on getting our bookshelves put back together and in place so we can shelve all of our books that have been packed away these past few months.
As soon as we are able to have all the necessary safety measurements in place, we will announce what reopening our building will look like. In the meantime, all of our staff would like to thank our patrons for their patience as we navigate this unprecedented time.
The Library renovation project continues to go smoothly. The upper level work is progressing nicely and we see changes every day. We are eager to show you the spruced up decor, classy new colors, and additional meeting rooms that will be so useful for your smaller gatherings.
Despite limited space and having our book collection in storage, in June we began providing some curbside services including book returns, FAX, and photocopies. We are now making preparations to begin circulating books through interlibrary loan. Stay tuned for information on how to submit book requests and pick them up during our curbside delivery times in July. For safety, we will quarantine all materials for three days before they are checked out to you.
The renovation project has continued while the Library has been closed due to Covid-19, and construction is nearly complete in the lower level. The work has included: new, more efficient HVAC units and lighting; new ceiling grid and tiles; both restrooms completely overhauled; update of the large meeting room and creation of a new smaller meeting space; reconfigured staff workroom; and new paint and carpet throughout.
By next week, the construction company should be able to begin working on the upper level renovation. In preparation for this step, the staff boxed the entire adult book collection, and on Thursday, May 7, a moving company moved all of the boxes and upper level furniture to the lower level for storage. It was a big job! We expect this next part of the renovation to take 12-14 weeks.
Even though the library has been closed due to COVID-19, construction has continued at the library! So far the work on our lower level has included: new HVAC units and ductwork; all new ceiling grid and tiles; the men’s restroom has been completely overhauled with new tile, stalls, paint, etc.; a new smaller meeting room has been added by taking square footage from our downstairs staff workroom; the larger meeting room has expanded storage space and all new cabinets for the kitchen area; and new paint throughout.
The elevator is up and running again!
We have a repair date for our elevator! March 2 – 4 is when we are scheduled for installation of our new power unit, so just a few more weeks until we can use it again!
The library’s elevator is out of service for the time-being due to equipment problems. Our service provider needs to build a new motor which will take a bit of time. We anticipate it to be back up and running in one to two months. We know this is a terrible inconvenience, but unfortunately there is no way to use the elevator safely at this time.
Demolition has begun downstairs! Don’t forget our bathrooms will continue to be available to patrons and we are no longer taking any book or DVD donations until the renovation is over.
Morrill Public Library will be closed Friday, January 17 through Monday, January 20 for preparations of the library’s upcoming renovation. Additionally, the library is looking for volunteers on these dates to help pack and move boxes, as well as clean and prepare our storage space for larger furniture pieces. We are looking for help from 9am – 5pm each day.
Construction is planned to start on January 21 and will continue for about 7 months total, beginning on the lower level. Although construction will begin on the lower level, the back parking lot and south entrance will continue to be accessible for patrons needing to use the elevator to get to the second floor.
Most of the children’s book collection will be moved to storage while the lower level is being worked on, but a small selection of these books will be kept at the library upstairs and continue to be available for checkout. The library staff encourages patrons to utilize our Inter-Library Loan service to checkout any books unavailable during construction.
At this time, the library will not be able to reserve the meeting room for patron use until further notice. Library staff will be contacting anyone who currently has a reservation to discuss other options. Additionally, the library will not be holding Culinary Quests, Discovery classes, After School is Cool, or Studio Tuesdays during the renovation process. Wednesday Morning Book Club will continue to meet monthly upstairs in the back of the stacks.
