Teen Advisory Council of Students (T.A.C.O.S.)
T.A.C.O.S. on Tuesdays – Teen Advisory Council of Students will have their first meeting on October 5th in the small meeting room. 1st Tuesdays at 3:45p. 9th-12th graders are welcome to join to earn volunteer hours by participating in this new service club.
The teen council program is currently designed to be a service club for high school students. We’re looking to have members show up for meetings once a month throughout the school year to discuss and create library programs/events for any and all teens in Hiawatha to attend. Staff members at the library would love to host events that students would definitely be interested in, so we’re starting with this T.A.C.O.S. club to get input directly from the source. A library staff member would sit in on the meetings and give feedback on what’s possible, but the students would be the ones leading the discussions and creating events.
Members of the club would get verified volunteer hours for the time they put into the events/programs they create and attend, aligned with the high school’s parameters.
These kinds of programs are always flexible, so if we get a solid group to attend meetings and the needs of the club change, then we’ll go from there, but the purpose right now is focused on getting teens in the library to help create teen events.
