Friends of the Morrill Public Library

The MPL Quilt Club meets at 2 p.m. on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month at the library. We view each others projects and enjoy learning new ideas and techniques related to the art of quilt
making. We received the Peter Pan embroidered quilt top as a donation that needed some tender,
loving care. The embroidery is possibly 80-85 years old; the sashing and borders are new fabric
selected to compliment the squares. The original designer of the quilt in 1926 was Independence,
Missouri needlework artist Ruby Stone McKim. She regularly shared her patterns in the Kansas City
Star and other publications throughout the 1920’s and 1930’s.
The Quilt Club is donating this special Peter Pan quilt to an individual who
makes a donation to the Friends of the Morrill Public Library, as part of the
Hiawatha Community Foundation “Give Back to Move Forward” campaign,
before midnight on May 28, 2022.
OUR PROJECT -The Morrill Public Library elevator, installed in 1992, is worn out and repair parts
are no longer available. It is used daily by staff and patrons. In 2020, a quote for a complete elevator
modernization was just under $90,000. The Friends of the Library were able to raise $10,000 during
the 2021 Matching Fund Event. We appreciate your support of this worthwhile project!
