What makes Library Giving Day special for 2023?

Morrill Public Library is part of a coalition of libraries joining forces to raise funds through a Library Giving Day campaign occurring this year on April 4.

For Library Giving Day this year, we are asking patrons to consider a few areas of need when donating.

Our top concern continues to be the library’s beloved elevator. It has been a part of our historic building for 30 years and, unfortunately, the existing parts are wearing down at a fast rate. Due to the elevator’s age, these parts can be hard to find and in some instances, they have to be built from scratch to keep the elevator in operation. Updating the elevator is costly at nearly $110,000. Please keep this service in mind as it is the only way wheelchair users and other patrons with limited mobility are able to access our second floor.

Another area of concern at our library is keeping up with the technology needs of our patrons. To continue to provide internet access to our new hotspots, vital software for staff resources, and update older equipment used by patrons, we are asking for donations in this area, too.

We encourage patrons and library lovers to make a gift in support of Morrill Public Library anytime now through April 4.

On Library Giving Day, we can all come together as champions of our local libraries. Thank you for helping us stay strong. We’re so grateful for your support.

How do I give to Morrill Public Library?

Morrill Public Library is one of about 50 public libraries in the Northeast Kansas Library System (NEKLS), which gives patrons access to over a million items throughout the system via Inter-Library Loan. Through our relationship with NEKLS, Morrill Public Library has partnered with the Northeast Kansas Library Foundation to be able to take online donations for Library Giving Day! The Foundation is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization established in 2009 to support NEKLS. They are able to accept a variety of gift types, including credit cards, stocks, and bequests.

What is Library Giving Day?

Library Giving Day started as an idea generated by the Seattle Public Library Foundation. The concept was to create a national day of giving that public libraries would rally around and that the public would embrace. So, Seattle Public Library partnered with its strategic library fundraising partner, Carl Bloom Associates, to turn the idea into a reality.

Library Giving Day is a one-day fundraising event with the goal of encouraging people who depend on and enjoy public libraries to donate to their local library. And in turn, that support will go toward the incredible programs, services, and materials provided by local libraries all over the country.

This campaign reminds us that libraries, small and large, serve as a cornerstone for our communities. In addition to well-loved books, many libraries offer innovative programs that promote lifelong learning, connect patrons to technology, and advance knowledge.

The day to celebrate Library Giving Day is April 4, 2022.
